Where did you grow up?
What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?
First memory of a career goal was an Air Hostess! (Too short though) Then a Vet but didn’t get the right subjects through school or have the marks to do science.
When and how did you transition from working for someone else to working for yourself?
Still in transition from corporate administration but moved from permanent work to temping with an agency.
What’s your why?
The short answer is to make animals feel better.
The long answer : To enhance the lives of pets and their owners with a holistic approach to animal wellnessIncorporating complementary therapies for pain and anxiety with basic "Pet Parenting" skills and positive training products. To assist caring trainers in giving back to the performance animals who push their bodies to enjoy working with us in sport and may be silently living with strain and soreness.
What do you love about what you do?
Seeing the relaxation and release of pain and changing dogs from anxious to happy after treating. It is the best thing I have ever done.
What’s challenged you most since being in business?
Getting credibility in the industry especially with animal health professionals, networking and establishing a client base will be also by word of mouth but I want to have really great imagery and professional online presence and reputation.
What are your greatest achievements to date?
Having good outcomes from treatments and running a trade stand at an event which was so well received. Phew!
What are some of the lessons you’ve learned along the way?
One step at a time. Don’t let my head get ahead of me and think of too many things at once and get overwhelmed. Believe in what I am doing and try not to get too scared
What’s the toughest decision you’ve had to make since running your own business?
Putting yourself out there in front of the community you want to work with incase they ridicule you. Taking the first leap of introducing your business and putting into practice what you have learnt without losing confidence.
What are some resources you or your business can’t live without?
Email, Facebook messaging, A good contact data base would be great.
What advice would you give someone wanting to start their own business or change jobs to an industry/role that they’d love?
Find a way to make it happen. Study something you want to work in and then work afterhours to start it off. If you believe in the product/service so will others.
What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?
Not much, I wear my heart on my sleeve. I used to sing and play the guitar and have travelled a lot.
What does your ideal day look like?
Not as organised as it should be. Try to not start working before I have done other things but I just get into it. A mixture of study, researching marketing, client calls, home duties, family duties and time with my dogs.
What’s one of your favourite quotes?
'People won’t remember what you said or what you did but they will remember how you made them feel.' Maya Angelou
Who or what inspires you?
My husband who never stops giving and is completely selfless, my kids who are struggling with the harsh time of making their way in the world and being unsure what they want and people who have a gift and give to others like Fred Hollows
Anything you’d like to add?
I can feel my mind getting sharper every day that I study and work and my motivation to leave the cubicle is driving me to make this my life. If I can do it so can anyone. You just have to know which road you want to take and then ask for directions and follow the map until you get there. Sometimes the social media stuff feels so confusing but you don’t have to be everywhere, just somewhere!
