Where did you grow up?

In Mount Eliza on the beautiful Mornington peninsula

What did you want to be when you ‘grew up’?

I always dreamed of being a Hairdresser or Chef. I’ve had many career changes over the years starting out as an Apprentice Chef, Pharmacy Assistant, Medical Receptionist, Bookkeeper for 15 years & then following my heart with a career in Massage.

When and how did you transition from working for someone else to working for yourself?

In November 2014 I left Endota Dayspa & opened up Retreat You. I wanted to look after my clients my way & focus my attention on offering specialised Pregnancy Massage.

What’s your why?

I love the feeling I get when I know I have made someone’s tension/stress be eased & makes me feel a sense of achievement.

What’s challenged you most since being in business?

Clients who try to bargain me down in price!

Balancing everything from being a Mum, being a wife, social events and making time for me to nurture my needs.

What are your greatest achievements to date?

Being recognised & known as a Pregnancy Massage Therapist (lots of referrals)

Speaking on radio about Pregnancy Massage (way out of my comfort zone)

Being an exhibitor at the Peninsula Pregnancy, Mum’s & Bub’s Expo.

What’s the toughest decision you’ve had to make since running your own business?

Whether to stick my available working hours or change my available times to suit my clients!

What are some resources you or your business can’t live without? 

Internet directories, website, Facebook, emails, networking, referrals & fliers’/business cards

What advice would you give someone wanting to start their own business or change jobs to an industry/role that they’d love?

Go for it, follow your heart, give it your best/hardest work, it isn’t easy, be patient & be authentically you!

What’s something most people wouldn’t know about you?

I am really shy deep down and it’s taken a lot of self-development to believe in me, have confidence & be true to who I am.

Exercise (me time)
