A busy schedule juggling family and kids, the desire to advance your career and attempting to maintain a form of social life means that wellness doesn’t always get a front row seat.  Maybe it’s lack of time, maybe it’s lack of motivation, or maybe it’s just that you don’t know where to start when it comes to making changes or doing the things that are going to offer you the best return for the time you invest.

Wellness, health and feeling your best doesn’t have to be complicated.  It doesn’t have to take a lot of time or involve an energy-sucking regime that is more work to schedule and coordinate than you daily office staff.  But it does take some commitment and it does take something else: persistence in showing up. Not every day will go according to plan, not every day will turn out well or be the outstanding success you hope for.  But when you continue to show up and push through the challenging moments, the trying days, and the things that are hard, they build you up, make you stronger and boost your self-confidence.  And along the way, you achieve health and wellness using sustainable, practical method.  Here’s where to start:

  1. Go Green

Not just environmentally, but on your plate and in your food. Committing to overhauling your diet and changing your eating patterns can be daunting and intimidating, so start by simply adding more greens.  Whether you consume more greens powders, add spinach to your smoothie or add a salad each night for dinner, all of these integrations of greens into your life will offer a big nutritional boost. Greens are incredibly rich in a multitude of vitamins and minerals, offer antioxidants, have a high fiber intake and are a great way to naturally increase your energy. They are alive, living plant and when you eat them, you too will feel more alive!

  2. Move Mindfully

Exercise can be the first thing that gets cast to the side when your day gets busy and work gets stressful. For many of us, this is because the mindset around exercising is an all or none mentality, whereby if we don’t have time to devote a committed hour to the gym, a spin class, run or strength session, what’s the point? In fact, our mindset needs to be the complete opposite, whereby we instead think of movement as “something is better than nothing,” no matter how big or small. For example, you can get up just 10 minutes earlier to fit in a short yoga session before you start your day. You can walk on your lunch break for 20 minutes instead of sitting at your desk the whole time.  You can take meetings outside into the fresh air, going for a walk, or even inviting colleagues to turn the discussion into one that you carry out over a run. When you take the kids to soccer practice in the evening, while they play on the field, you can do a few laps around the field and get your own run-in, while still being able to watch them score a goal. There are lots of practical ways to integrate movement into your day, a just becoming more mindful and aware of how to make it happen is the best way to do so.

  3. Foster Positivity

  4. Shift Perspective

Perhaps the biggest advancement to your personal wellness comes from shifting your perspective and mindset.  Not only to one that fosters positivity but to one that fosters sustainability for your health. Instead of looking at your health and wellness as needing a quick fix, start looking at is as a lifestyle. Look at all of your choices as a series of decisions and actions that contribute to a lifestyle that allows you to be your best.
