The Quick Flick

A quick flick and it’s a hit.

Hi Iris, can you tell us what is The Quick Flick and how it works?

The Quick Flick is a self-inked winged eyeliner stamp that is the first of its kind. It is customized for each eye in that it features two stamps molded for the left and right eye. Each stamp also includes a felt tip liner which makes it super easy to fill in and shape the rest of your winged eyeliner look.

How did the idea come about?

A mixture of countless mornings running late for work, packets upon packets of makeup wipes, wasting money on gimmick products that didn’t work and several breakdowns over the fact I couldn’t get my wings to even look like sisters let alone twins. I was in my final year of Interior Architecture at uni so having a design background I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and come up with a better design solution.

So I’ve read it was somewhat of a side hustle in the beginning.  When did that change and how did you know it was catching on?

It certainly did start as a ‘side thing’. I thought I would sell a few to friends and family here and there…but it turned out that I wasn’t the only one experiencing the wing eye woes. It really took off after The Daily Mail published an article on my story and the product. We definitely gained a lot of recognition and brand awareness from that one article, it was a wave effect after that.

How does the business work, are you simply online or also in stores?

We started solely as an e-commerce business but have slowly begun to transition into retailers. We spread TQF word via online platforms predominately including Instagram and Facebook, but a lot of our customers still want to ‘try before they buy’. I guess some customers are skeptical and are worried it is just another fad product, so seeing it in store and being about to hold, touch and try on their size is what gets them over the line.

Do you plan to develop other complimentary products or keep focus on the one?

Absolutely – we don’t plan to be a one hit wonder. TQF is founded on the philosophy of creating makeup solutions that are quick, easy and useable by people of all skill levels. Whilst we are currently working on extending our QF range into other colours, we hope to eventually move to an umbrella company ‘Quick Beauty’ which will house a range of products that align with this concept. Stay tuned!

Tell us about the Shark Tank experience?

Nerve wracking, emotional and amazing! You definitely learn a lot about yourself and the business which is invaluable and can’t be taught. After pitching to some of Australia’s biggest names in business I feel like I can do anything now!

What’s changed since the show, has it helped the business?

What hasn’t changed since the show!? Sales are up as well as brand recognition. A lot of opportunities have also come after the show which has helped in expanding and growing the business quicker than I could ever have imagined.

What does your daily role at the business look like?

Getting through a lot of emails, overseeing day to day operations, working on new products and growing the business.

How do you manage your business, but also time for friends & family?

To be completely honest, I don’t. I think a lot of people think that once you have your own business it’s all rainbows and fairy floss and that you magically have all this time and can

work your own hours, when and how you want. I honestly live and breath my business and 9/10 my social life is put on hold. It’s a sacrifice but I know it will pay off eventually.

What lessons have you learned along the way?

To ALWAYS go with your gut. If something doesn’t feel right or if you are second guessing or questioning something it normally isn’t the correct path to take. I’ve also learned it’s super important to stay true to yourself and to remember why you started in the first place.

What is next for Iris and The Quick Flick?

Shaking up the cosmetic industry as we know it! I’m all about challenging pre-conceived ideas and expectations of things -, especially beauty. I feel as consumers we have been taught a standard of beauty, and if we don’t tick off everything on the list we don’t fit the bill. I’m all for using REAL people who are perfect because they are imperfect, are all ages, cultures, and genders. Everyone should be able to wear wings and not have to apologize for it!

How can people find out more and order one!
