How to Dress

How to Dress Like a Girl Boss That You Are

  1. Revive the Wardrobe

Never underestimate the power of a well-fitted suit! The key to rock a suit lies in its fit. The better the fit, the better it will look on you. If you’re not much of a pantsuit gal, a statement top goes a long way. Don’t be afraid to experiment. A statement top could be a silk button-down or something fun like a few ruffles across the front. With that, don’t limit yourself to fitted trousers; wide legged pants are the new black! They are not only pretty and pleasant to look at but are fairly versatile and stylish, too.

Moreover, for some reason, most working ladies seek refuge in a limited colour palette. A girl boss is never afraid to try new things. Ditch those blacks and move into the world of colour and variety. A coral shirt or violet pants will hurt no one; in fact, they’ll make you stand out the way you deserve!

If you’re a girl boss, never be afraid to show it. As a working woman, you might look at your wardrobe and think, what is a sundress doing in MY closet? Remember, being a girl boss does not mean always walking around in strictly formal attire. Wear what is convenient, something like a striped black and white sundress paired with a little black or tan belt and blazer will do very nicely, too! Or a pair of black trousers with a tucked-in cute white tee.

  1. Louboutins & Valentino

Marilyn wasn’t lying when she said: “Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world”. It is of great importance that you splurge on a decent pair of heels. Pump heels by Christian Louboutins are a DREAM! They will not just put together your outfit but will also give you a proper posture, not forgetting the strut that every girl boss needs to have.  Comfort is the key so even if you’re on a budget, Nordstrom might have some great pieces which will not just be comfortable but will also give Louboutins a run for the money.

No outfit in history has been completed without a bag. A bag is not an accessory but a need. To top your look like a girl boss, it is imperative you invest in a decent bag.  It is ideal to go for solid, neutral tones like nudes so that they work with all your outfits. In addition to that, it is vital to have it big enough for a laptop without compromising on its look (of course!).

  1. Accessorize

Often, accessories are overlooked without taking into account their power to make or break a look. When it comes to jewellery, it is a fantastic idea to complete your outfit with some good old pearls. Pearls are definitely a woman’s best friend. They’re the most timeless pieces you can own.

With that, cheaper options for accessorizing could be that of rose gold or just gold rings that you can stack. Not only that, little tube hoops (emphasis on little), can help with putting the look together. Accessories not only inculcate jewellery but also cover scarves, spectacles or even watches. Scarves can bring life to a dull boring outfit and mind you, girl bosses can never afford to make that mistake. Also, spectacles give a fairly nerdy look which we’re all for. Not forgetting watches, they do have other objectives than just telling you the time. You can totally rock a cute strapped watch with any outfit be it a formal one or just something as casual as a walk down the beach in your airy sundress.

  1. Grooming

Grooming, under any circumstances, should not be avoided. It is of immense importance that your nails are groomed and well-polished – chipped nails aren’t cute. Most girl bosses like to stick to neutrals when they’re in their work mode, but you do you.

Makeup. Makeup can be a game changer. Doing too much is not advised, but doing nothing at all is not appreciated either. A sheer base with natural but groomed brows, a little mascara, dusted blush and lip colour of your choice will definitely elevate your look. If you’re not a pro at makeup, your best bet is the amazing makeup bloggers and artists on the internet who are kind enough to make review and video tutorials for free.

Hair! Hair not just makes 90% of your selfie but also is a significant part of your outlook. You can pull off long lush curls or just a straight bob, whatever floats your boat but make sure your hair is clean, out of the way and is not distracting and you’re good to go.

  1. Girl Boss Attitude

So the outfit with hair and makeup mean nothing if the attitude is missing. It all about that confidence that takes you from a 7 on 10 to an 11 on 10 in seconds. Being a girl boss is all about playing your roles as a wife, mother, daughter, and working woman while keeping your chin up and never looking back. Own your outfit. On the ambition and vigour that drives you. Own your GIRLBOSS self.

Our favourite girl bosses are Victoria Beckham, Anna Wintour, Jessica Alba and Amal Clooney.
