6 No-Nonsense Tips for Holding Your Own When You Feel Your Business Is Crumbling

Life isn’t always smooth sailing. As hard as you might try, something will eventually go wrong and derail your plans. And in those moments, it’s easy to feel like your entire empire is crumbling around you. What if everything you worked so hard for was all for nothing? It happens to the best of us and it can be hard to hold your own when everything seems to be going wrong. So how do you hold your own when you feel like the business you built is falling apart? These 6 tactics will help you get through the rough spots and come out stronger and have a business action plan.

Keep Calm

It’s easier said than done, but staying calm is one of the best things you can do for yourself. It’s easy to go into panic mode when it looks like things are plummeting towards rock bottom, but acting impulsively won’t help the situation. You need to be able to think rationally so that you can make smart decisions.

If you’re having trouble calming down and thinking clearly, try:

  • Quick breathing exercises.
  • Do something physical – take a walk, go for a bike ride.
  • Take a break – sometimes stepping away from your work is enough to clear your head.

Objectively Analyze the Situation

Take a good look at where you are. Is it really as bad as you think? Sometimes a bad week is enough to make you feel like everything is failing, but other times might prove to be a bit drier. No matter the situation – in order to know where you need to go, you need to know where you stand.

Acknowledge Your Mistakes

Take a moment to ask yourself how you got in your current situation. If you made mistakes, it’s good to understand where you went wrong so that you can avoid doing the same thing in the future. And if your situation did arise from something outside of your control, you should recognize that and let go of any guilt you might be feeling.

Throw Out the Rearview Mirror

While learning from your mistakes is an important step, dwelling on them will stop you from moving on and regrouping. Once you’ve learned what you need to, let the past stay in the past. Holding on to guilt or a grudge is going to waste the energy that you could apply to move forward.

Form Your Action Plan

Once you know where you are and understand what went wrong, it’s time to start planning your comeback. The best way to do this is to set small, achievable goals for yourself and your business that contribute to your overarching goal. These tasks can be as simple as cold-emailing a certain amount of leads or review your business plan. The small goals and daily tasks might not feel like much at the time, but when everything comes together you’ll be able to see how far you’ve come.

Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help

If you’re really struggling, remember that you don’t have to do it all alone. Sometimes, an outside opinion and advice are exactly what you need to get back on track. Who you go to for help will vary depending on the situation – for some, it might be a financial advisor, others might need help with their marketing strategy, and others might just need to hire an administrative assistant to take care of daily tasks while they focus on the bigger picture.

Having your plans go awry is never an ideal situation, and sometimes things can feel totally hopeless. But you can hold your own in the worst of times and get your empire back on track. By staying calm, evaluating your situation, and developing an action plan you can come out of your situation stronger than ever before.
