Communication Barriers

5 ways to develop effective business communication skills

The success of your business owes a lot to your communication. Be it managing vendors, leaving a lasting impression on your customers/clients, or making your employees feel valued, effective communication helps a person in multiple ways.

Have you excelled in business communication yet? If not, this blog post will help you sharpen your communication skills. Today, I’m going to share five tips by following which you can develop the art of getting your messages across.

Without further ado, let’s dive in:

1. Be Emotionally Intelligent

When you are capable of understanding emotions and how they leave an impact on human behavior and attitude, you can connect with your own emotion as well as the emotions of the people you meet. And this is a sign of a true emotionally intelligent person. How does it help?

Being an emotionally intelligent person, you can control your emotion in any kind of situation. This can help you immensely in making effective communication. Also, when you are able to understand others’ emotions, you can strike a conversation that will touch the inner chord of people, making you a good leader, too.

2. Learn The Science of Body Language

Have you ever given it a thought that what your body language says about you or how you are appearing in front of others? If you have not yet, now is the high time to think about it. Some particular body gestures reveal a lot about a person. So understanding body language and being aware of your own body gestures can help you upgrade your communication skill and leave a lasting impact on others.

One of the important aspects of body language is how your facial expression changes when you meet a person, discuss something in a meeting or just silently listen to the other person. Also, how you greet a person, how firm your handshake is in a first meeting or how much eye contact you maintain in a conversation defines how reliable you are. Another thing is your posture that shows how confident and professional you are.

So learning the science of body language is important to make your communication better.

3. Learn to Write Succinctly

Be it shooting an email to your clients or drafting a campaign speech, writing succinctly is highly important in order to make your written communication effective. The main aim of writing succinctly in business is to convey your message as efficiently to the audience as possible. And the more efficiently your message will be conveyed to your audience, the better the result you will receive.

Here are some tips on how to write succinctly:

  • Use powerful, specific words
  • Write in the active voice
  • Never use jargons in your writing
  • Avoid redundant phrases

Written words say a lot about you. So, choose your words and sentences wisely.

4. Be Confident and Charming

A confident and charming personality goes a long way when it comes to creating a lasting impact through business communication. It reveals your positive side. It helps you not only engage with a large group of people but also hold their interest towards you. Once people are connected to you, they can understand you well.

So, be confident. It will help you communicate properly.

5. Convey Your Brand Everytime

When you communicate as a business person, you are conveying your brand. So it is important that you should communicate in a way that reflects your brand voice. Every brand, be it small or big, has a personality. When we hear the word ‘Nike’, our mind starts to visualize energy, vigor, and strength. Just read any ad copy of Nike, you will find that they always communicate with powerful words. So, my friend, start conveying your brand each time you communicate. This will help you communicate effectively.

In a nutshell, how you communicate can make or mar your business growth. Having emotional intelligence, being aware of body language signs, maintaining succinctly written communication, owning a charming personality and above all, conveying your brand in a subtle way every time you communicate with people can help you communicate better and grow your business immensely.

It’s true that not all can be an innate expert in making effective business communication. Nowadays, there are many training courses available online. Just pick a good communication skills mastery course and you are ready to overcome critical communication barriers.
