4 Things to Keep in Mind While Booking Hotels for Out-of-Town Vacations

“Happiness consists of living each day as if it were the first day of your honeymoon and the last day of your vacation” –Leo Tolstoy

One of the integral things you need to keep in mind when planning a vacation is where you are going to plan for a vacation is where you are going to stay. After all, how well you plan your accommodation arrangements will play a very pivotal aspect in mapping out the logistics of your day-to-day travel itinerary. In fact, it might even be argued that your choice in accommodation would be the most important aspect when it comes to planning a trip. Admittedly, you are not expected to stay inside your hotel rooms all the time.  But selecting the right place of accommodation can contribute to a better and more comfortable stay insomuch that deciding which hotel choose is paramount to a good and pleasant experience. With this in consideration, prospective travelers should bear in mind that the hotel they choose can play a significant role in making or breaking a vacation.

However, with the myriad of accommodation alternatives available, it can be rather difficult to zero in on one and choose the best one for you. When it comes to choosing your accommodations, it is best to identify what kind of vacation you are planning to have and determining what needs you have based on that. Luckily, the modern world has given us the option of making detailed comparisons of prices and services through the use of internet bookings. More importantly, online bookings have given potential hotel and lodge guests new variables: Online bookings, Star ratings, Guest reviews. The latter two play a pivotal role in giving prospective guests an insight as to what they can expect based on the experience of others. On the whole, ratings and reviews help prospective guests make a more informed decision.

However, even ratings and reviews are not assurances for quality and excellent stay. As a potential guest, it is advised to be a little discerning about your choices in accommodations. So, on your next travel excursion, here are a few tips to keep in mind when booking a hotel (whether offline or online):

1.)    Hotel

Of course, where you are planning to go on vacation is going to play a significant factor in determining your options for accommodations. However, if you are traveling internationally, it is imperative that you be oddly specific about your location and be sure to choose the hotel or accommodation that is in proximity to most areas of interests. As an example, if you are planning a vacation in Batangas, you would not be looking for hotels in Taguig, would you? In this regard, it is best to consult a map before booking a hotel first. You want to ensure that your accommodation is accessible and convenient for all of the plans you have outlined for your trip. After all, you would not want to book a hotel and find out most of the activities you have scheduled are actually found in another city, right? Generally, it is advisable to choose a local hotel that is centrally located and has good connectivity.

2.)    Budget

Determining how much you have for your accommodation expenses is paramount to choosing the right kind of accommodation. Sure, there is a good range of excellent five-star hotels in the area, but can you afford them? Consider how much you can actually spare to spend on your accommodation expenses before actually booking a hotel. With this in consideration, layout your budget map first and see how much of your budget can be allocated for hotel expenses. While we are at that, be sure to take a look at the services you might wish to add such as laundry, extended hour room service and the like. More often than not, these do not come in cheap. So, if you are going to need them, check how much you can spare.

3.)    Facilities and hygiene

While having a bed and bath would already be sufficient to most travelers, this might not hold true for all travelers. Determine the factors that would make your potential stay unique such as if you are traveling with kids; it would be advisable to have a swimming or kid’s area for your little tots. If you are planning to bring a pet along, be sure that the hotel you have selected allows your four-legged friends in their premises. More importantly, you should also check the level of sanitation and hygiene maintained by the hotel.

4.)    Reviews

Last but definitely not the least is to check for reviews—especially if you are booking your hotel online. Keep in mind that you cannot rely on the photos provided by the website and have to make the extra effort of looking for reviews from guests who have previously stayed at the hotel. If the hotel is listed in a booking app or has a social media page, there is a likely chance that you will find several reviews about the hotel there.
